Bridgestone
« on: March 04, 2005, 10:35:21 am »
Bridgestone just hiked up their prices.  :o I have always like the Battle axe but for that price I'm going with Metzler. That's a no brainer. Bridgestone might have just priced themselves out of tire sales. Too bad it's a good tire.

here is my next set of tires

:o  New on the market for this year. I am presently on Bridgestone Battlax BT020's but this is going to be my next set of tires for sure :)

Pirelli Diablo Strada motorcycle tyres

The Pirelli Diablo Strada radial tyre was designed to have the broadest spectrum of applications. Essentially it is a distance tyre which naturally puts it into the touring category. It is however far more than this and lends itself to the Yamaha R1 as well as to the Diversion. Again, high silica content aiding fast warm up and good water repellancy to ensure that this very grippy tyre works as well as possible in all conditions.
The Diablo Strada's slightly harder compond and a tread cut that is 25% deeper than Diablo or Sportec (ie 8mm instead of 6mm)ensures that this tyre will outlast the majority in the distance category.

Good tires.  I'm probably going to go with Diablos too since Bridgestone is so proud of their tire.  I like the BT-014s though a lot of people don't.

I would be interested to hear how the Perelli's work (and last).

I am currently running BT010 (fr) and BT020 (rr) and will need new skins later this summer.

How much for the Pirellis?

How much did Bridgestone hike their prices?  Last year I was able to pick up a set for $260CDN (115 fr/145 rr) from Moto Internationale in Montreal.

Unless the Pirellis are signifigantly better and/or cheaper, I will prolly do the Bridgestones again.

Cheers!

G

I just picked up an 014 for $231. It was the last one. Ross at K-tech said that the Parts Canada catalog list them for $304. I don't know how they can justify this kind of increase. Thay're not a freakin gas company. >:(

I'm on the market for a set of Metzler's as well.   I like the US price.   Does anyone know of a tire place across the border (Watertown/Syracuse) ?

Anybody stuck using bias-ply tires should have a serious look at the new tires Metzeler is rumoured to releasing (or just recently released?). They have the old ME33/ME55 Lazer/Metronic tread pattern, and a high silica content rubber. Should work really well in the rain; I hope they come out with a 100/90x16 front.

Even though Bridgestone has hiked their prices, I'm still impressed with how they perform. After our cold ride last night, I felt the tires on everyones bikes, and the bridgestones were the warmest of all of them. Warm means sticky to me. ;D ;D

Metzler's coming out with a variable compound tire (harder in the center, softer at the edges) ... read about it in a British cycle mag, but don't see it on the Metzler site yet ... I've been riding Sportecs for the last 3 sets, but this might be an interesting replacement.

Sounds a lot like the Bridgestone BT-45.

Anybody know anything more about it?

I just got off the phone with several shops getting quotes for tire prices.  Prices varied wildly!!

For argument's sake, the tires in question are Bridgestonea - a BT014 front 120/70ZR17 and a BT020 rear 180/55ZR17.  I will list shops and prices quoted from highest to lowest..

Powersports (Ottawa)  front - 196.95/ rear - 246.95

Wheelsport (Ottawa)  front - 156.79/ rear - 209.95

Goodtime Centre (Ottawa)  front - 156.79/ rear 195.99

Moto Internationale (Montreal)  front - 120.99/ rear - 152.99

G Bourque (Dieppe, N.B.)  front 112.99 / rear -  142.99

From Ottawa, its almost a tie between Bourques and MI.  Bourques quoted me 335 incl taxes and shipping.  MI worked out to 317 incl taxes...add $20 for gas and $3 for Timmies and it comes to 340.  When you add in the PITA factor of having to send Bourque's a money order (first time customers only), MI looks like the winner.

For the fellow that paid $231 for a front tire, you wuz robbed!!

Anyone up for a road trip to Montreal?

It was $231 for the rear actually and the 020s are cheaper, but I'm not willing to sacrafice the grip I get with the 014s. What's the price for a 190/50/17??
