Fuel leak
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:33:07 am »
Okay Guys, here's my deal.

My tank is leaking gas from the seal arounf the fuel pump.  My question is this, if I pop the sucker out and lay a bead of RTV around the pump, will that fix the problem, or will the silicone be disolved by the gas?

I'd hate to have to take the bike into the Shop again this year.  I've lost far too much riding time wating for work to be done this year.

Use Seal All. It is available at Crappy Tire. It will stop it from leaking.

if the leak is caused by a bad gasket,  why not just install a new gasket ?

I'm not willing to pay $58.00 for a gasket and an O ring.

I'm fixing to get the thing done by tonight, if the seal all/rtv fix dosent work, then I'll break down and buy the gasket kit.

Hey man, I don't know if this is too late or not- but if you go somewhere like Eastern Fluid power or Keeler hydraulics you can buy gasket material and cut your own (it comes in a sheet)....I have made many carb. gaskets that way....if you go to either of these two places you can also buy BUNA-N o ring making material....just cut it to length and use crazy glue to connect the open ends of the o-ring material.

I'll keep that in mind next time I need gaskets Snerchie.

I used an rtv type gasket maker, the first one I found that was labeled "Gasoline resistant" and it seems to be holding up so far.

The seal's still holing up, and I'm happy say I've been logging some decent miles.  This Thursday would be great for a group ride.  Anyone up for it?

would LOVE to but... we are moving on Thurs. I don't think it would be taken too well if we took off for a ride while other people move all our stuff.   :P :P
