Hello All
« on: September 08, 2006, 09:41:15 am »
Hey Everyone,

I was really happy to find this community, now that I'm finally back on two wheels! (My previous ride was stolen last summer - bastards!)

Anyways, I'm looking forward to being part of the community and getting to know y'all!

Have a good one,
Mike

Actually, my stolen ride was a 1981 Honda PA50 moped. It was in mint condition too, I was really sad.  :'(  Something like that is just totally irreplaceable.

...although I gotta say, I don't miss the blazingly slow 35km/h top speed - getting passed by a bunch of teenagers on BMX's tends to knock the ego a little bit (even more than riding a moped in the first place!)

Damn, 35km/h?  Well, you have a buzz bomb now... can you get tuned pipes for that thing? :)

heh heh heh, yep, it already has tuned pipes, and trust me, BUZZ it does!!!

I have a feeling that when they came up with the phrase "Loud pipes save lives", they weren't talking about the characteristic WAAAAAAAAH you get from a 50cc 2-stroke! I do get plenty of smiles as I zoom down Princess, let me tell you.

BTW, the scoot is currently sitting in my 10th floor apartment living room, after another theft attempt. Let me explain...

Brief timeline of Mike's scooter:
June 16: Bought it off a guy in Ottawa, drove it home in the trunk of my Sunfire (well, it was mostly in the trunk)
June 20: Finally got all the necessary papers/plates
June 22: Went for my first "long distance" ride out towards Bath. On said ride, the circlip decided it didn't like its current home inside my cylinder and tried to escape, basically destroying my top end in the process. I PUSHED the scooter 14km back to Kingston  :'(
July 10: Finally got all the parts I needed and got it put back together. BTW Motosport Plus SUCKS A$$
Aug 8: Got back from the long weekend to find someone had almost completely sawed through the cable I had locking the scooter to a lightpost in my highrise parking lot. I surreptitiously moved the scooter into my living room that night. It just barely fit into the elevator (PS don't tell my landlord!)

....and thats where it sits till this day. I just don't trust my neighbourhood. I'm moving next month to a place with a garage, and hope to have it back on the road ASAP (hopefully I can at least get a month or so of riding in before the snow flies). Even though I spent about $200 on locks and another $150 for an alarm (yes, an alarm in a scooter), I just don't feel confident leaving it unattended.

So now you know the whole Sad Scooter Saga!

You pushed a busted scooter 14km?  I think I'd hitch into town and grab the car, but I admire the persistence.   Rage does good things for stamina.  :D :D

heh heh yup, a full 14 km. Know how I could tell? As I pushed it, the odometer continued to tick over right before my eyes.

The best part was when I got home and called my wife (who was down in the US at the time), and the first thing she said was "Why didn't you just call CAA to come get you with a flatbed?".

It was one of those times where you just blink and smack yer head.

I have a 2006 CRF50F and over the weekend my chuncky but rode it to a top speed of 55km/h.  Put a smaller person on that and I am sure it could hit 60km/h.
