Track Day Available
« on: September 25, 2006, 12:46:46 pm »
I'm going to be going to a track day @ Shannonville this Friday.  There's another ticket available, $90.

Layout is Fabi, which IMHO is only bettered by the Long track configuration.

If you're interested, let me know and also email editor@cmgonline.com ASAP and tell him you want in.

Bahh, Fabi blows -- not one-- but 2 bus-stops, and no flow to the rest of the track.....Still, a $90 trackday beats a day of work anytime. We'll see what the weatherman has to say....

I disagree, the Fabi builds character and skill.  The Pro and to a lesser degree the Nelson may be more flowing and quick, but the Fabi needs skill to be fast on it.  It's my second favourite configuration - and my arch-nemesis for racing results (cars, so far).

If you can do the Fabi well, everything else (ok, so elevation is another subject) seems simple.

Ya i don't know about Fabi building character and skill.....i think frustration and luck sum it up better. Turn 3 has to be one of the hardest turns to run thru on the proper line carrying good speed (i'll give it that) but when you do, that leaves the door on the inside way open so anybody within about 8 bike lengths will dive in and either take you out or push you way off line killing your drive......so it's frustrating because it's hard to master and it's frustrating because its easy to get fouled up by somebody else. And your lucky if you nail the corner and your lucky if you don't get nailed in the process....beyond that i don't think it has much in common with any other corners on any of the tracks i've been on so being good on fabi turn 3 doesn't really carry over to other tracks -- everytrack has it's own quirks to figure out.

You're overlooking the throttle and bike control you need for corner 3.   Also, Fabi has the perfect mix of every other kind of corner - carousel, late apex, tight hairpin, sweeping right and left-hand corners, et al.

You can see it as frustrating... but you could also be stuffing your competitors in that corner just like they try to do to you.  That's racing...!  You should see one of the car competitors I drove against a few years ago... that guy would literally throw his Corvette through corner three and the hairpin so violently that it looked to the observer that it wasn't possible to keep it on the track.  But he did... and to devestating effect, in the points.  Fabi is where he took me in points to drop me to 2nd place in 2000.

I don't think i'm overlooking throttle and bike control required -- that's a given -- just as it's required in every other corner on every other track. Turn 3 has a unique geometry to it but its not going to unlock the secrets to doing a fast carosel, decreasing radius or sweeper anywhere else, its just local track knowledge that'll reward you with a fast lap or punish you for mistakes moreso than most corners. And yes i've been on both the giving and receiving end of a turn 3 stuff, but it doesn't take skill to stuff someone....
