Heya
« on: April 20, 2008, 04:32:58 pm »
Hey guys, figured I'd introduce myself here. I'm new to Kingston, just moved here from Ottawa for work. I'm also new to riding. I took the MSF course last spring in Ottawa and purchased an '83 kawasaki LTD 440 which I wasn't able to ride as much as I would have liked. For this riding season I bought a Suzuki GS500F, just picked it up from Toronto yesterday. Anywho, just wanted to say hi, maybe I'll see some of you on the road :D

hey!
I ride a 500f as well, I'm a Queen's grad student but grew up in Kingston.
Let me know if you ever want to ride. I've been looking for some folks to get together with!

Thanks for the welcome guys. As for riding with you guys, I'm not too sure I'm ready just yet. New city + new bike + half a season of previous riding experience from last year = Me thinking I still need some back road practice. My current problem is not knowing any quiet back roads around here yet to practice on lol. Hopefully I'll finish with moving the rest of my stuff down from Ottawa on saturday and have sunday free to go out and practice some.

Oh also, anyone have any suggestions on where to go to buy some riding boots/gloves?

^^^ Go to Tony's Cycle...or MotorSport Plus.

Tony's is on Bath road in the "township" . . . . accross the road from a 1970's looking highschool.

MSP is on the opposite end of town, inbetween Sir John A and Division...running parallel to the 401 (you've probably seen the HD / Honda sign if you've been on that strech of 401).

Backroads: Go out Bath road to Tony's, have a look and keep on going past Amherstview. Although better roads (IMHO) are better ridden out #2 hwy. That's the road that goes inbetween Fort Henry and the Royal Military College.  . . . Once you're past the base, it's open roads, and many back country roads (Abey Dawn road is 5 or so kms long, but has a nice twisty in it).

Another IMHO, it'd be safer for a newcomer to ride with a friend or two...get a guided tour around town, and keeping safe in packs. I know i just cruise idely along in the city.

Good Luck !
