I must be an idiot.
« on: April 14, 2009, 09:10:39 pm »
I wanted a modern track bike, something to play with while I figure out what kind of racing I want to do in VRRA.  I think Group 4 Heavy is going to be too challenging to ride except as an also-ran.  I'd like to commit more to that and other track events this year.  Health is a lot better, you see.

So anyway, I figured... hrm... GSX-R 750?  Something with a little rash on it, cheap and I'll just paint the fairings up and remove anything that shatters.  Started searching the 'net a few weeks ago.

What'd I end up with (unless things change before this weekend)?  05 GSX-R 1000 with 185hp to the wheel, 400lbs wet and reworked suspension.  Price was ... right.  Once it's in my possession I will spill. ;)

So, I must be an idiot.  I need a bike this fast like I need Ebola.  But at least I'm a grinning idiot.  They say God hates a coward, anyway.

The other compelling choice was a rashed but otherwise mechanically unhurt RC-51 with Jardines on it.  Asking price was $5500... might have considered it but my friends with RC-51s tell me to shy away from even mildly modded ones, and this one mentions having its RPM limiter raised...

Also found a hell of a deal on a 21' trailer with six bike chocks and three clip-in tie rails, can double as a car hauler in a pinch.  There are some real steals out there on the Internet right now.

Joeys bike is definitely a steal - well equipped and an awesome price. I'm surprised it didn't sell long ago.
With all that extra displacement now maybe you'll be able to keep up with the 600s .......or maybe not.... ;D ;D ;D

Seriously-good deal. Let me know when you want to do some trackdays - there's a crapload of days available this year so no matter what your schedule is you should be able to work them in.

Awesome.  I'm definitely in, and with the trailer I have now, I really have no excuses.

By the way, I don't much care if I keep up. :)

So? When's the grand debut? BB and I are signed up for May 9 SMP long track - can't wait. Just got the bike back from the dyno, now to add the fun bits and dyno it again...yeehaw...

Also, saw (schedule posted at bike shops) where someone is putting on regular evening trackdays for $60-$80 depending on which track. Not bad, you could probably get almost 4 hours in.

I have the Gap this week, and then I'll be back.  Shortly thereafter, I start doing track days, basically any time you are going, let me know.  I'll bring the trailer + chairs, etc.

I have the 750 and the Tuono with me.  Raining here yesterday and today.  Looks like we're going to need more beer!

We hope to get out today, if we have to ride on wet roads a bit, so be it.
