Prepped and ready for some track time. Maybe next weekend or next week... too much to do this week.
Had to re-wire the front pinch bolts, give the cam chain tensioner a half turn (which requires taking off the tank... weeee!) and do some creative zip tying to get some wiring out of the way of the steering assembly. Not sure how McRae had it set up but it's working for me.
Hope I did the cam chain tensioner correctly... Joey told me to turn the tensioner in a 1/4 turn or so, I turned it in about 1/3 because it quietened the engine down a little more; turned it in a full 1/2 but the engine started to pick up a very slight labour, so clearly that's a bit far. Fun to do while you're alone and trying to balance the tank assembly on your thigh while you have your hands in the guts of the frame with a running engine. I guess every day is a new adventure!
Sounds good, no untoward noises now, and pulling the throttle back hard gives no indication by ear of any cam chain slap. Crossing my fingers that I got it approximately right.
BTW, this is definitely going to be interesting to ride... took it around the block and let the engine get up to 60C, then gave it about half throttle and before the engine cleared its throat (happens around 9,000 for this degreed motor), the front wheel was already doing a gentle rise. Just to be sure I wasn't feeling something that wasn't there, I did it around five times more .

Once again, I feel stupid for buying this thing but just couldn't turn it down.
My ZX-7 is next.
