One off "The List"...
« on: June 21, 2009, 07:05:40 pm »
Just got back from a tour down to Nova Scotia - rode the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island. AWESOME. That is road made for touring on a motorcycle - it is SPECTACULAR! The entire time I was gone the weather was perfect blue sky days and didn't have to break out the rain gear at all - couldn't have picked a better time to go. Also, the traffic was almost non-existant. Tourism in general is down out there, and with school not being out yet ment no traffic on the roads - a bit freaky really - felt like I had all the roads to myself there was that little traffic. A very nice area to tour on a bike. The only recommendation I would make to anyone going that way would be to take more time, and a passport and go out through new york, vermont, new hampshire and maine for a more scenic drive out. You can also take a ferry over to nova scotia and ride up the coast and see more of the province on the way to cape breton island.

Anyhow, an epic trip, reminds me why i love the vfr....

Sounds like it was awesome.  Next time let me know... I want to do this trip badly.  That is, if you care to have company.  I know sometimes these trips are better done alone.

Get any pictures or any stories to tell?  If so, share them up.  It's such a great place to visit.

Ya, I'd do that trip again via the USA, but way too much going on for the rest of this summer to be able to get that much time off again.
Funniest thing that happened was stopping for gas and a cold drink in the middle of nowhere: A minivan pulls up with an older retired couple and a thirty-something couple pile out and the younger guy comes over to me and starts talking - in a thick over-the-pond accent about the beautiful weather, and the cabot trail for riding a bike....then, seeing the Triumph patch on my jacket, asks me if i like Triumphs. So i said yes, my other bike back home is one that i just bought not too long ago and i'm loving it. Then he says "what do you think of the Daytona 675?" and i said that's what i bought for a track toy and i love it. Then he smiles and says, back home, in England, he works for Triumph and was part of the development team for the 675....so i told him he had a dream job and he says - ya, it's pretty sweet. They gave him a pre-release 675 to road test for several months before while they were gearing up for production. How's that for an awesome job and company vehicle? Anyhow it was cool to meet someone like that in the most unlikely place - would have been cool to talk with him for much longer to hear more about the development and production side of things, but we were heading in opposite directions.

I did take some pics i'll try to post later, but most of them really don't do justice to the landscape in reality.

Did that last year , end of june. The weather leaving and  in Cape Breton was horrendous, heavy rain, wind and I mean heavy wind ,especially going through Cheticamp, it was all I could do to keep the Blackbird from flying, never experienced anything like it. But the scenery is spectacular when the weather is right. We did cross over at Prescott and went through the states, some great roads in Vermont and Maine, New Hampshire, but you have to get used to the no helmet rule and lots of choppers going like hell!!!!
