Shannonville Track Day Regulars in Kingston
« on: September 16, 2009, 11:22:16 am »
Hey guys,

I recently took the FAST riding school, and am completely hooked to track days. I have a question for any riders who regularly attend track days in Shannonville:

Is there a way we can set up some sort of carpool/bike pool? I don't have a truck or a trailer, but would be very happy to subsidize the costs with other regular track day attendees. I am currently looking for a track bike, but if I can't get a bikepool I may have to buy a street bike and ride it to Shannonville on track days (bad idea...I know but I'm desperate).

I would only need my bike transported to and from Shannonville (from Kingston), since I have a car for my own transportation.

Please let me know soon, since I have to make a decision on whether to buy a dedicated track bike or street bike!

Thanks everyone for your time,

FD

I am going pretty regularly and I have room for at least one other bike in my trailer, two if I really had to.  If you want to coordinate with me like another couple guys are doing, that's cool.   You can even leave it in my trailer if you're going on the regular and you share gas costs. :)

I am usually going pretty well every available track night (Take On the Track is one) and a bunch of full days.  We are going on the 3rd of October to Shannonville, a bunch of us.  And probably some others.

Picture of my rig:

If I don't have pins for your particular bike I'd ask you to buy some from PitBull.   See: http://www.pit-bull.com/trailer-restraint-types.shtml  They're about $70.

You are a hero. Probably won't be able to make any trackdays for the rest of this year...Will you be running next season as well?

I am looking for a track bike now..hoping to get a race ready SV so let me know if you know someone who's selling!

Hey! Life kept me very busy last season so no track days, but I'm getting ready to go all in for this season. Do you still have room for an extra bike? Would love to bike pool to save some cash and make new friends.

Yeah I have room in the trailer for one more bike.  Benefits of doing this for you are that basically we share gas, tools and labour.  Makes it a lot easier to do things like set up a canopy, etc. :)

How often do you plan on going? If we are hitting the track at least one day a week, I'll get a dedicated track bike. Otherwise I may have to do the frankenbike aka street bike with duct-tape :)

I'd say we are doing track days once every two weeks on average.  When full track days are available (and desirable) we might do one a week... all depends on the schedule.  See the TOTT schedule I posted up for evenings this year.

Awesome! Now if someone would sell me a track ready SV. I've been checking cherrypicker and WERA forums religiously with no luck. Damn things fly off the shelves as soon as one's available, so let me know if you know someone who's selling. If I can't find one by the end of march I'm going to have to buy a street bike. Then, when you guys whoop my green ass around the track I will smugly reply with the following:

- "my concrete-hard STREET rubber can't keep up with that soft stuff"
- "These folding pegs reduce my max lean angle by AT LEAST 15 degrees"
- "These headlights/signals/brake lights add at LEAST 50 lbs to the bike"
- "If I had no cat converter like you, I'd be running Nelson in 55s flat"

So in conclusion, I hope you know someone who can sell me a track SV :D

No, but I do know of a really well-sorted EX 500 that I think may be VRRA legal if you wanted to race it.

Somewhat off topic, but do you know where I can pick up some cheap track gear? Need boots and gloves at the moment.

Tomorrow at the MC show?  Other than that, there's "newenough" on the Internet but you never know how good the gear will be.

Haha I guess my quest to obtain a track bike has spanned a full two years so I've built up an audience here...I feel like Rudy (the football movie).

I ended up getting an 07 cbr600rr that's relatively stock. It's got rearsets and braided lines, but other than that it's bone stock.

The big advantage to this bike is that it has all the street bodywork/lights so I can put it on the street and ride it to track days if need be. I don't have a trailer hitch or a trailer on my car so I couldn't justify getting a full out track bike.

No word from Shaman yet regarding bike pooling so I may end up having to ride to the track after all. Let me know if any other k-towners are doing track days soon! Hopefully the weather will start cooperating...
