A couple of us have been working on a local shop owner for a while because the pricing for tires is literally twice what it is online, and we let the owner know that there are at least 10 of us that buy two sets of tires a year (I'm more like 3-4) online because local prices are too high. That's at least 20 sets of tires (likely a lot more) they're losing to online shops, and we all want to give the local shops business.
So after this protracted discussion, owner offers to match online prices within 10%. This is easily worth it given the shipping costs and to shop local.
That was February. I called yesterday and said I am ready to put in my order, for two sets of Power Pures, with installation (I'll bring the wheel assemblies, not the bikes).
$656 installed. Each. If I don't want them installed? Wow! $20 per set off, because they "discount the tires if you buy and install them here."
Rider's Choice has them on sale for $320 a set right now. Pete's Superbike? Same. Will call Kennedy tomorrow, because I need to order up two sets of slicks for the stupidbike as well, I'm sure he will come in close.
How can I do business locally when I can outfit two bikes for nearly the same price? And I have access to a tire changer, so really I'm throwing them the labour just to same me some hassle.
Really bothers me.
