BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
« on: March 29, 2005, 04:04:28 pm »
Please, take some time and ease into riding this year.

Just wanted to remind everyone to be careful on the roads.  There's still winter salt and sand, but more importantly your skills have gone into hibernation over the winter.  Every spring requires getting used to and applying caution to your motorcycle.  Your tires don't work as well when they're cold, either.

I heard about a death in NY today, a long-time rider got himself a new bike and went too fast into a corner, colliding with a telephone pole on his 2nd ride of the year.   Don't be that guy (or gal).

If my post reminds one person to be a little bit more cautious, it's worth it... for the rest of you I've annoyed,  :P

Great points ... well made ...

plus the cagers need a little time to get used to us back on the roads as well ...

my first ride usually takes me to an empty parking lot where I practice going 2 kph (doesn't take much skill to travel at 260, but not everyone can control at 2), some tight turns and some emerg. stops and avoidance techniques, then I head out to a lonely stretch of Taylor-Kidd and wind 'er up gradually, to get the feel and make sure the Bird hasn't developed any weird stuff while hibernating ...

call me overly cautious, but I'm still ridin' after 30+ years so there's gotta be something to it ..

rubber side down

cheers
