Trails
« on: February 11, 2005, 07:17:53 am »
Woohoo!  I'm first.  Love virgin territory :)  Just wanted to know where everyone rides.  I usually go on Middle road and know of a few trails that go from Kingston to Battersea.  But I'm always looking for new spots to go

I haven't been on those trails at all.  I've been going to the Crown land in Napanee and on the rail trails at Sharbot Lake and Kaladar.  Another GREAT area to ride is the Ompah trails.  Way too many blackflies, but as long as you keep moving, it's worth it.  Very rugged stuff.

I'll have to try the Ompah one.  Love the rough stuff.  The trails I go on aren't official trails, more like paths that others have went on :)  WHere in Glenburnie are you?  I'm on Kingston Mills.  I have to do some road ramming to get most places but not too much.

I'm on the other side of Perth Road from you.  Near Cole Hill Rd.

I wouldn't know how to get over there, though I do see plenty of kids ripping around between Bur Brook and Unity in the fields.  Not sure if they should be there, since I see a lot of road riding along Cole Hill and occassionally past my place... bad news if they get caught by the fuzz.

I have a plate and insurance, so I can run some of the roads north of 7.  I don't think there is any township near Kingston which allows it, but I'm not certain either.

P.S. The Ompah run is pretty hardcore... some of it is single-track, some of it is in a flooded area which is pretty neat.

To get to Cole Hill I'd have to go down Old 5th and then there is another "road" off that .  You go through a field and it brings you out behind the subdivision by the ballpark.  It's just road ramming after that.

I run the roads a bit and have never had any trouble with cops.  I think you can ride on the side of the road but you need plates and insurance (which I have) You have to have your lights on an aren't suppose to go over 50 Kmh (ya right :) )  .  There is a rail bed by the Cloverdale ice rink.  I heard you can get to sydenham from there.  I'll have to try it sometime.  But it turns into the Cat trail at some point and you aren't supposed to ride on it, but everyone does.   It'd be nice to follow the law completely on them but it's not always possible.  I just try to be respectful and not drive over peoples lawns :)  Slow down for pets and small children, etc.  A smile and a wave usually helps too.

I don't know why they don't open the K&P anyways.  They have opened the rail trails everywhere else.  The Caraqui trails I am a bit leery of endorsing, though.

I wish they would open up the K&P too.   I think it'd be OK on the Cat trail if everyone just took it slow.  I meet up with Cross Country skiers all the time on the trails and there has never been a problem.  Just wave as you go by.   Went  on a good ride yesterday.  Down the Rideau (gotta be careful where you go) over to Dog Lake to the Battersea boathouse for some grub.  Then onto Loborough and another little lake I don't know the name of then Collins lake over to Mount Chesney and then back on the Rideau home.  Put about 100 kms on the bike.  Awesome ride.  The lakes are a little scary when you hit the bare patches on a bike, and the sleds blow by you like you're sitting still :)  But much better than spending Sunday on the couch

I wish I checked this on the weekends.  Damn! I was looking for a riding partner.   Let me know when you are going out next time.
