Review of the new 2005 GSX-R 1000
« on: February 11, 2005, 07:53:31 pm »
http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/2005/GSXR1000/2ndthoughts.asp

Light and nimble as a current 600?  Slipper clutch?  Crazy brakes?  165hp to the wheel?

 :o

Really, all I'm interested in is the lower seat height and the slipper clutch.   No mention of whether they hurt the comfort of the bike (from just a sit at the T.O. show, I'd say no).

And, the best review I've seen yet.

2003/4 GSX-R 1000 with Yosh full system compared to 2005.

Wow.  I mean... wow.  Talk about a difference.  More than 2,000 RPM difference in usable power, and 10lb/ft of torque almost all the way through on the old bike.   The 2005 isn't just meaner, it's... vicious.  :o

Videos of SBK testing in Australia...

Video #1

Video #2

And a PDF of the MCN test... looks better than the scan, that's for sure.

My buddy works for Inside Motorcycles and told me that their test rider just got back from the '05 Gixxer test in Austrailia. He said it was insane 166kms in first and gobs of tourque everywhere. 8)

Yeah, but the old bike had no shortage of torque.  I was going through a tire in 2,000km last year... rode 'em out to 4500 teetering around on a squared tire. :(  First gear doesn't need to go that fast... but then again on Shannonville's Nelson setup I think it would be pretty good... I'd only have to shift out of first twice (maybe three times).  Or just leave it in 2nd.

Here are some more pics of the exact same bike I'm getting (colour wise) and the new Suzuki immobilizer key which I found out about just this week:

Great color! Is that the K5 limited edition. What is the difference?

You're thinking of the Gunmetal Black, which I tried to get... they were all gone. :(

Pics (I hate that high-mount pipe on it, FWIW):

Hopefully it'll be quiet.  I didn't like the loss of stealth from my Yosh pipe at all.  Stealth is good... people don't get all upset with sportbikers wazzing about if they don't know they're there in the first place.

Two testing videos... with a couple of complete throttle dopes on the bikes.  Smooth?  Not hardly.   :o  And listen to that pipe... if the video is any judge, it sounds louder than the Yosh on my 2003.  :-\

Video One

Video Two

You need to have the DivX codec, available at http://www.divx.com/

And a comparative dyno graph of the big i4 bikes (look at that massive torque hole in the curve of the new R1... jeez):

And if you're into it... hear one on the dyno...

http://www.lkm.de/MVI_4629.AVI

That pipe may not be pretty but it sure makes some sweet sounds.

Sweet!  I just got the new Cycle Canada and there's a full review in it.  Worth having if you're a GSX-R, Harley Street Rod, Honda NR 500 or Triumph Sprint ST fan... GREAT mag to start off the spring with.
