painting RIM's
« on: February 17, 2005, 02:18:43 pm »
I'm going to paint my aluminum rims (AS SOON AS IT WARMS UP A BIT !)

Is it a big/risky job to break the tire bead and tire-iron the rubber off the rims ?  I've read
some techniques that picture an 8ft 2x4 as a lever with a smaller piece of 2x4 as the bead-breaker.
I don't want to hear any snap/crackle/pop from the aluminum rim.

I know powder-coating is the way to go,  but I'm hoping a couple coats of Krylon Dull Aluminum followed by 3 or 4 coats of Clear Coat will pretty them up enough..

But just to get a quote, and convince myself,  does anyone know of anyone/anyplace that does powder coating in the area ?

Hey tiger,I was thinking the same thing, and i have a phone number of a guy who does such a job.First you have to remove the paint and then get them polished to a smooth finish before he will do them.i also have a contact for polishing your rims, but pretty expensive.Call this guy Randy (613)545-0454. If you want the polishing guy let me know.

I know a guy. He lives up in Trent River and he's pricey, but man he does good work. Depending on what you want, you don't need to have them polished either.
